Camera Shots
The way a scene is shot through the help of distancing the subject away from the camera in a particular manner plays a huge role to create a cinematic feel to a film. These Camera shots each represent something different from the previous shot which is why they are so many types.
Lets go through the main Camera shots that used frequently through out films.
The Establishing Shot / Extra Wide shot
Establishing shots are wide shots taken to show the environment/location or the area where the story is taking place for viewers to understand the setting of that particular scene.
Long Shot
Long shots portray the Subject/Character from head to toe and leaving space for 'look room' around him/her while also showing the setting of the area.
Medium Long Shot

The medium long shot has our subject shown from Head to knees, (cutting off either slightly over or under the knee joints)while maintaining 'head room'.
Medium Shot/Waist Shot

The Medium Shot covers our character from head to waist as its alternate name would suggest.
Medium Close up Shot

The Medium close up Shot covers our character from head to around shoulder length if not lower. This type of shot is popularly used in dialogue/speech transacting scenes.
Close up Shot
Close Up shots are taken to focus solely on the subject facial expression as shown in the example about. This shot covers the entire face and cuts off from the neck of the character while exposing the traps and collar area.
Big Close Up Shot

Big Close up shots cover the head room and instead start from the hairline/ forehead of the subject and cut of around the chin creating a more dramatic affect to convey feeling and expression.
Extreme Close up Shot

The Extreme Close up shot is used to focus on a specific part of the characters body. In this Example its the eyes that are the subject of focus.
OTS Shot

OST stands for Over the Shoulder shot which is used usually used in scenes where there is an exchange of dialogue between two characters. As its name suggests, its shot from over one characters shoulder while he/she faces away from the camera towards the other subject which is the main focus.
