    Camera Movements

Camera movements are of quite significance in the making of movies and films. Camera movements hold the potential to function in many various ways. Camera movements are mainly used in initiating re-framing or for a following shot but are also used to create expressive effects and to grasp the audiences attention in different ways.
Lets go through the kinds of movements and examples.

Pan
Pan is a camera movement when the camera is mounted onto the tripod and is moved on the horizontal axis may it be from right to left or left to right while the base of the tripod is fixated on a certain point. The camera does not move from its position just the direction it faces.

Tilt
Tilt is a camera movement and a cinematographic technique in which the camera stays in a fixed position but the direction in which the camera faces changes. The direction of the camera rotates from up to down or from down to up in a vertical plane.

Dolly
Dolly is mostly used as a shooting platform to create a smooth movement in the horizontal axis. In this movement the camera itself is moved from the positioning of left to right or from right to left. This avoids camera jerks during the production of movies.

Track
Track camera movement is quite similar to Dolly. The main difference between Dolly and track is that in track the camera is mounted onto the camera dolly that is then placed onto a track. This movement is used when the camera is to be used to go in or out during filming.

Hand Held
This movement is very much self explanatory, the camera is operated and used while in hand. This movement is used to give a first person point of view. for e.g it is used when there is a chase going on in a horror movie. It then gives off the effect of you being physically present.

SteadiCam
The main purpose of this movement is to avoid jerks during the production of the film. It allows you to move freely without having the camera to be shaky. This helps provide a smooth shot during the production.

Zoom
In this movement the camera lens is used to move closer or farther from the subject. You could either zoom in or zoom out from your subject, you could use this movement to go into the depth of whatever you are showing.

Aerial/Drone
An aerial/drone shot is a shot that's taken from an elevated vantage point than what is framed in the shot. Aerial or drone shot gives viewers a deeper understanding of what is happening below, both literally and metaphorically. A drone is used for this camera movement to show the subject from the top.

Jib/Crane
A crane shot is a shot taken by a camera on a moving crane or jib. Most cranes accommodate both the camera and an operator, but some can be moved by remote control. This movement is mostly used to show emotional or suspenseful scenes.

Zolly
Zolly shot is a combination of a zoom and a dolly shot. It is considered a powerful shot if executed properly. There are 2 ways to execute the zolly shot, one way would be to dolly in and to zoom out and the other would be to dolly out and zoom in.
